Hear Larry Silver, Farquhar Professor of Art History, emeritus, at the University of Pennsylvania, discuss the biblical books of Tobit and Daniel, the lesser-known tales of Jewish life in the Persian diaspora. Along with the Book of Esther, these stories held great fascination for Rembrandt, and his pictorial representations read as stories about both Jewish survival and a prophetic future. This program was presented in person at the Jewish Museum on April 10, 2025.
The James L. Weinberg Distinguished Lecture is made possible by the Marshall M. Weinberg Fund, with additional support from Marshall M. Weinberg.
