The Bizarre Phenomenon of Stigmata In The Catholic Church

It's 13th century medieval Europe. Alone on a secluded mountain in Italy, a monk by the name of Francis of Assisi is experiencing a bizarre spiritual phenomenon during his prayer.

Fresh wounds, in the form of nail holes are spontaneously appearing in his wrists and side, with no visible cause.

Seven centuries later, a friar named Father Pio of Pietralcina had reportedly spent most of his life with open wounds in both of his palms that remained fresh yet never got infected until his death.

What else do these 'stigmatics' experience? What is the cause behind these mysterious wounds? In this video we take a look at the bizarre phenomenon of stigmata in the Catholic Church and try our best to make sense of it all.
