Queen's lead vocalist Freddie Mercury was a British singer, songwriter, record producer, and record producer. As one of the greatest rock singers in history, he was renowned for his flamboyant stage presence and four-octave vocal range. Mercury defied the conventions of a rock frontman by influencing the artistic direction of Queen with his highly theatrical style. Mercury was inducted posthumously into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001, the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2003, and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2004 as a member of Queen. In 1990, he and the other members of Queen received the Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music; one year after his death, Mercury received the award individually. The British Academy of Songwriters, Composers, and Authors presented Queen with an Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Song Collection in 2005. Mercury ranked 58th on the BBC's list of the 100 Greatest Britons in 2002.
