Parenting is one of the most fulfilling yet exhausting journeys. It brings out both strengths and weaknesses in parents and children alike.

As children we tend to put our parents on a pedestal. We feel we have to be perfect to earn their love, make them feel proud, as a way of building a positive relationship with them, but often end up feeling unseen and unheard in our interactions. However, as we mature, we begin to understand that our parents are individuals shaped by their own struggles, expectations, and experiences. This realization can be difficult but is necessary for building a more compassionate relationship.

We like to believe that parents always make the right decisions. That theu must know better. But over time, we recognize how this unspoken expectation may have placed an immense burden on them, forcing them to uphold an unrealistic standard. Every person deserves the space to grow, learn, and make mistakes—including our parents. Holding them to perfection takes away their right to be human, which is unfair.
