What are the general requirements for naturalization?
To be eligible for naturalization, you must be a lawful permanent resident for five years under the general provision or three years as the spouse of a U.S. citizen. You must have physically resided in the U.S. for at least 30 months within those five years or 18 months within the three years if applying as a spouse. Additionally, you need to reside in the state or USCIS district where you claim residency for at least 90 days before filing your N-400 application. Continuous residence in the U.S. for the five or three years is required, along with demonstrating good moral character, proficiency in English, knowledge of U.S. government and history, and willingness to take an oath of allegiance to the United States.
