The Battle of Kosovo is one of the most effective nation-building myths in all of European history. As a pillar of Serbian Nationalism, it helped turn what was a small principality on the frontiers of the Habsburg and Ottoman domains into the highly militerized kingdom partly responsible for starting the First World War. In this video we are going to unpack the Serbian Sacred Dynasty, the Cult of Saint Sava, and the Myth of the Battle of Kosovo. This video is not a comprehensive retelling of Serbian history, but rather a lens through which to study Balkan Nationalism. As part one in a series, it not only aims to undertand it, but also the ramifications it left behind.
