American vs Canadian in Europe

Reactions as an American 🇺🇸 vs. Canadian 🇨🇦 in Europe

People in other countries tend to respond much differently depending on where I say I’m from

Often while traveling, saying you’re from the USA brings follow up questions

Which can be both positive and negative depending on the exchange

Because like it or not there are a lot of stereotypes about Americans

And there is always coverage about the USA on worldwide news

So people want to talk to you about it

However, the responses can be much different if you’re Canadian

The stereotypes are nicer and I don’t really encounter people with a preconceived negative view of Canada

So sometimes I change where I say I’m from depending on the interaction!

And for some context…

I have a Canadian mom and an American dad and grew up on near the border of New York and Ontario

So it’s not a lie to say I come from both 🤷‍♂️
