This is what to wear as a female tourist if you visit Iraq! Unlike some people may think, covering your hair in Iraq is not necessary. Iraq is full of many different cultures, so some women wear hijabs and some don't.

Here are some tips on what to wear as a female tourist if you visit Iraq (as well as the majority of the non-beach countries in the world)!

Like anywhere, I always try to follow the local customs and cultural norms, and dress respectfully. It's important to avoid wearing revealing clothing, such as shorts, tank tops, or low-cut tops. In Iraq it's not required to wear long sleeves, although the majority of the time I did.

If you plan to visit religious sites, it's essential to dress more conservatively. In Iraq, in the cities of Karbala and Najaf, you should wear an abaya and hijab. You can bring one along with you, or buy it when you get to Iraq.

When you have a question about what to wear, asking locals or your tour guide for advice on the specific regions you plan to visit is super helpful. They can provide valuable insights into local customs!
