@henrybowden9907

It's widely believed that a jousting injury that left him unconscious for several minutes may have resulted in a brain injury that affected his mood.
Superb renditions of his face.

@birdyfilovingheart6365

It wasn't that last wife, Katherine Parr, who survived the longest after his death. That accolade goes to Anne of Cleves who outlived all of them.

@lindahouston4549

It's ironic that both his daughters became queens in their own right when he went to such lengths to produce a male heir.

@EH23831

“Says goodbye to Anne” That’s a delicate way of saying he had her head hacked off…

@Im_so_Retro85

He was actually handsome as a young man. He was fit and charming. The possible brain damage he suffered ruined his life (and those around him) forever.

@taotaostrong

As he aged, his exterior began to reflect his ugly spirit.

@Nurichiri

Everyone does the how Henry actually looked with older pictures and I was never able to see what the big deal was when he was younger. It's nice to finally see the looker that he was, and interesting to see how he lost his shine as he got older.

@sheilasnyder994

These are fascinating. I’ve never had the foresight to imagine what the people in the old paintings really looked like. I did imagine though that they all couldn’t have been as ugly as they were portrayed. Please keep up your great work - thanks.

@melissadickerson1773

Holbein was ordered to paint Henry to look healthier and better than he actually looked. Henry was grossly morbidly obese, had an ulcer on his leg that kept weeping noxious pus and fluids, and scowled constantly before his death. It's also said that he most likely contracted syphilis during one of his many sexual liasons.

@roro1980

Worth noting the timeline - he was married to Catherine of arragan for 23 happy years all the marrying and crazy behaviours happened in a relatively short period.

@kilgoretrout3875

I don't believe that a concussion left him with brain damage. His leg injury never healed and always caused pain. He could no longer be physically active as he once was so he put on weight. He was constantly worried about having an heir. It was a myriad of things that, as he aged caused him to be more and more grumpy and impatient.
You bring his portraits to life. Very well done.

@N1ghtGlider

My biggest gripe with this tyrant is the fact that he openly slept around but beheaded Katherine Howard. That poor girl never got a break in life.

@karawigley6231

Henry the VIII is one I have always wondered what he must have looked like in real life. You always hear about how handsome he was prior to the later part of his life but you always wonder because no one wants to be the one who gets beheaded for talking down on the appearance of a king.

@irishiz498

Someone needs to explain to me how this channel only has 30k subs?? This channel is INCREDIBLE. Talk about bringing history to life. THIS is how history needs to be taught in school.

@primrosett

The audacity of this man to claim Anne of Cleaves wasn't pretty enough to sleep with when he looked like this...

@ChibiProwl

I’d love to see Isabella of Castile and Ferdinand of Aragon. I’d also, if you have time, would love to see Marie Therese and her husband Francis of Lorraine. Thank you.

@arandomcivilian7024

The work done at 1:18 is amazing. Though it was in the 16th century, you’ve managed to make it look like a randomly snapped photo in the 70s. 👏

@KM-go9ck

How ironic that his daughter Elizabeth I was the one who protected England and was the greatest of all the Tudor rulers.

@berjaboy

The son he wanted so bad, ended up dying at the young age of 15, leaving his two sisters Mary, who was as brutal as her father, and Elizabeth. Elizabeth ushered in one of the greatest periods of English history. A time of great economic, military and artistic prowess.
