Peter, it touched me and put smile on my face what u said " as i get older i appreciate the calm". Many could relate with this. Very true.
As a Canadian who grew up in beautiful British Columbia and who has now lived in Switzerland for the past 15 years and have my Swiss passport, I can say life here is better in many ways: expendable income, safety and security, health care, pension plans, proximity to other countries, and the overall optimism of the people. I live in Geneva and have a chalet in Gryon, which is a ski resort directly above Bex, so I know the Swiss Romande region that you drove through very well. This video is honest and accurate. I value our democracy and when my invitation to vote on a referendum comes in the mail every 3 months or so, I consider it a privilege; this is true democracy in action. Great video!
I can‘t get over the printed out itinerary! This was the most Swiss thing ever, had me laughing out loud. Greetings from Zürich, welcome Peter to our beautiful country.
Some context about the military service. You have 4 options to serve: 1. Normal military service as a regular soldier it's 260 days in total. Can be done in one go or you go through the "RS" basic training for 18 to 21 weeks (depending on the branch and job) and then you do 3-4 weeks of "WK" refreshment training every year. Beside the yearly training you have to go shooting every year. 2. Civil protection service, basically natural disaster relief, help for big events ect. 245 days of service 3. Civil service, health care support, elderly support, other social programs. 1.5x times the duration of regular military service 4. Not suitable for service, can be for various reasons, medical, moraly or if you have a criminal record. You have to pay 3% of your yearly taxable income as "Militärersatzsteuer" (military substitute/surrogate tax). Swiss men always complain about the military but when you meet your old army buddies it's always fun and you will be reminiscing about the times for hours (lots of beer is involved) .
as Russian i worked for Swiss company for over 4 years, i have to say the corporate culture was the only truely multicultural open-minded, unlike other examples from EU / US i experienced. What i missed in Switzerland itself was ''fun'' they are very calm people with great nature and pleasant views. I happened to met the best people there who impacted me in a positive way and for that I wish Swiss people prosperety and all the best.
As a swiss citizen, I must say that this is quite an accurate view on Switzerland. We have our problems, but compared to other countries we are still in a good place. And I do hope that we can stay like that a bit longer, regardless the challenges. Unfortunately, more and more swiss people are not aware that it is a place worth to protect.
I love how respectful you are as an interviewer. And your host was amazing, too.
Thank you Marc for being such a good ambassador for our country. And thank you Peter for being that curious and showing Switzerland in a very objective way 🇨🇭

I didn't expect you ever going to Switzerland for a video!
I'm from the area in switzerland that you visited in this video. Amazing to see you here after having watched your videos for years
Who is Marc? He knows our country very well, and most importantly, he can explain it clearly 🇨🇭🇨🇭
Amazing! Marc did a fantastic job in painting a picture of switzerland in that short amount of time (all the information was accurat ). As a Swiss citizen the comparison to the US in this video is super interesting to hear, thank you Peter & Marc!
„So, do you have a website?“ (Insinuating to make a bit of advertising by telling the viewers his website’s name) “Yes, I have a website.” (Answering factually and truthfully to the given question, not naming the website) You gotta love the cultural differences in communicating.
This has grown to be my favourite channel. I love learning about cultures around the world. Switzerland is breathtakingly beautiful. 💚
