Those who say that Franks is a copy of Evangelion haven't actually watched either of these two anime. It's like comparing Doctor Who to Rick and Morty.
The animation company owe the manga readers an apologies ngl
I feel like darling in the franxx needs a reboot where it adopts the manga into anime form (tho that’s my opinion)
Damn… Zero-Two was great. As soon as I saw an image of her, I had to know what this anime was. She was compelling as a character and #1 reason the show is watchable
Also everyone hated on ichigo wayyyy too much. It’s not like ichigo could watch the series and find out the backstory, all she know is this gal is trying to suck out his lifeforce
Ironicly.. the Vyrm where forshodowed.. its wasnt just enough episodes to build that plot in a meaningful way.
Honestly, I really think another season would actually do justice to this series, and maybe even redeem it. I still hold fond memories of it, even with how pear-shaped things got at the end. It all reeks of a troubled production, and so I hope that a continuation or even just a retelling could give the creators the opportunity to improve it.
7:00 i can relate. Darlinng in the frankx is my first anime and i continue to watch more anime from there. I can't forget about how i cry at the ending and i don't even know that was actually a bad ending.
0:30 of course it's familiar. the way darling is spoken over and over again with rage jealousy. THAT'S LUM! or Jellymon as well Wait, a controversial anime that started good and had a deflating ending? Bro that's also Digimon Ghost Game Wow, that was quick. Nice and quick video always works for me and it's a nice treat, so great job! ^^
It needs a "end of evangelion" moment, make a movie to redo the last couple episodes and it's peak. I still think that like 60-70% is fine but it's too fast and loose near the end and the end-end is too out there, even if it is happy. The chart at 3:46 is pretty much how I would rate the show too.
YES! A DARLING IN THE FRANXX VIDEO IN 2025! I can't express how happy I am. Similarly to you, I came across it in 2020. I loved it but i don't think I fully understood it. This december I reminded myself of it and damn, it hit me like a truck. I love this anime so deeply because of them - their development, relationship etc. It struck to me so hard. I have to agree that the aliens were totally unnecessary and they kinda ruined the plot and the great world building. But the ending just made their love so much more beautiful. Even tho I wanted a happy ending for those two so much - just them being together till the end is so poetic. How they were unable to live without each other. Promises they made to come back even if they're seperated. Also it showed me how deep and beautiful the love between Hiro and Zero Two is. Plus the symbolic meaning. The Jian. How they found happiness just in each other despite the f*cked up world. Keeping the promise. Coming back for each other despite knowing how it will end. The act of marriage - together up until death. It was sad as hell but I think it was beautiful. Left a huge void inside me. The ending made me realise how attached I was to those characters because of the emotions it gave me. Aaaand I just love the ost of this anime. Probably the only thing not a single person can dislike about this show. And it hurts to see how this anime has lost its popularity. I remember those peak times of 2020 when Zero Two was literally everywhere haha. How lively was DITF reddit and other medias. It hurts to see only the legacy of it. I'm happy that there actually are a lot of people loving this anime nowdays, but its popularity is way smaller. I'm so excited for the fanmade manga sequel and really happy that the community is still alive. Can't lie, I do hope that a official sequel will come out :p. Haven't read manga yet but I'm looking forward to reading it. Thanks so much for making this video!
The thing is, as I was reading the Manga as it was coming out, I read that the Mangaka had to BEG for more chapters. it was supposed to end in the first year, but they were able to get the greenlight to keep going getting to the ending it did but it ran out of chapters, no idea production of multimedia stuff works, but I think they didn't want to renew the contract to keep going, manga had more time in the oven to bake in some quality, no idea if it could have ended up in a similar spot to the anime. Likewhat if the anime had enough greenlight time for 3 more seasons, the space part could have been Gurranlagan~ish or Tenshi Muyo where it encapsulated an entire season dedicated to it, where everyone else tries to figure out how to help Hiro and ZeroTwo.
It was not nearly as bad as people say, still very enjoyable. They tried to pull a Gurren Lagan to less success. By the way, Ditf was anime original. It only got a manga later on.
FINALLY!! Someone who almost had a one-to-one experience as I did with this.
Darling in the Franxx is one of those anime I find myself thinking about a lot—not because I like it. Oh no. I hate it with a burning passion strong enough to cause a second extinction event for the dinosaurs. But my problem isn’t with the ending that so many others take issue with. No, my problem is much deeper. It's the direction of the entire show. The way it unravels genuinely pains me. Let’s start—not from the beginning—but from the ridiculous twist that the ending throws at us: Apparently, there are secret aliens who introduced humanity to this honey-like, glowing oil called magma (liquid klaxosaur). Humans begin using magma as an energy source, and eventually, they use it to make themselves immortal. The cost? Infertility. We even see in the early episodes how miserable these “immortal” humans are. Immortality, then, is not a blessing. It's a hollow existence. Let’s call this Option 1. Then we have Option 2, which is “rediscovered” by Kokoro—yes, that Kokoro, the NTR demoness herself. She believes in the old-fashioned process of living on through childbirth. A wholesome plan on paper, sure—but wrong again! Not everyone can have children, and this creates new kinds of sorrow. Take Ikuno and Zero Two for instance. Ikuno can’t have children because she’s gay, and Zero Two—well, I honestly forget the reason, but she’s biologically unable. We don’t get much insight into Ikuno’s emotional state, but we do understand Zero Two’s. She can’t have children, so instead, she puts all her emotional energy into one singular goal: to be with Hiro. But deep down, she sees herself as incomplete—not a "real woman" like Kokoro. She believes the best thing she can do is sacrifice herself, because she views herself as a monster. Now, both Option 1 (immortality) and Option 2 (procreation) are bleak and limited. But here’s where it gets interesting: there’s a third option. One the show flirts with, hints at, and then completely ignores. Option 1 is pushed by the alien invaders. Option 2 is pushed by Kokoro and the show’s sudden obsession with traditional family values. But Option 3—that’s Hiro’s path. Back at the Garden, Hiro does something radical: he gives himself a name. A silly name, sure, but still—a name. He spreads this idea to the other children, and suddenly, they all want names too. Why? Because names represent individuality, identity, personhood. That’s what separates Squad 13 from every other pilot team. They aren't just cogs in a machine. They are people. They aren’t bound by chromosomes or biology. They’re defined by how they nurture one another. They represent human potential beyond just survival or reproduction. The show could have followed this path. It could have said that being human isn’t about living forever or having children—it’s about building meaning, community, identity, and love. But instead, it clung to Option 2. It made Kokoro its moral centerpiece. It reduced Zero Two’s pain to a tragic necessity and gave Hiro no room to challenge the narrative. Hiro could have shown that identity transcends genetics, that you don’t have to be “complete” by someone else’s standards to be whole. But the show didn’t let him. And that is why I hate Darling in the Franxx with a fiery, soul-consuming passion. Afterword. If you want to learn more about this option 3 and who it works. I would recommend reading: "On the Origin of Tepees: The Evolution of Ideas" by Jonnie Hughes. Or you could watch "Orb: on the movements of the earth" to get a better idea of Option 3. This comment was made more dramatic and readable by ChatGPT.
guess nobody talks about this because most oldtakus have already seen this rodeo a million times before, there's almost no original animes not based on a manga or light novel, barely any of them ever gets to completion before animation and the later parts will be ridden with filler bullshit
0:32 damn, you got me there 😅
ditf is a anime which had the best character building under what like 13 to 15 eps which made me fully invested in the characters and when the end happened my chest was suffocating i was just not able to fully watch the last episode continuosly when i did realised they are going to die. But still i watch first 15 eps of anime again and again in every 8 months or so and i still feel the same way its one of the best if not the best
i found out about this last year, and i loved it. i didn't know about the "controversy" until earlier this year. i'm planning to do an article about it maybe towards the end of summer or early fall. i think that there's a lot more going on in the series than most people know.
