Flatpak if everyone is wondering is like a universal Linux application for every Linux distro. Unlike Windows, Linux is just a kernel so everything you add on top of the kernel is opt to you, that means different distros use different package managers, for example debian based distros like Ubuntu uses .deb, while Red Hat based distros like Fedora uses .rpm. A lot of people were tired of having to compile different packages for different distros so they created Flatpak so it works on everything and it's isolated from your main OS. Another alternative to Flatpak is Snap.
Even Linus talk about your channel, and your SteamOS reviews
Can't wait for a Windows replacement for gaming PCs
It is about time steamos will be the norm
The comparison between Bazzite & SteamOS would be interesting The Bazzite team bring faster updates & more up to date software, especially the kernel, than Valve. So theoretically Bazzite should have an edge, though I doubt it would be huge. Bazzite also has early support for Nvidia in Gamescope, though only for 2000 series cards and newer. For those people waiting on SteamOS, give Bazzite a try, it's worth it.
Now thats a Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide screen you got there mate!
Let's just take a second to appreciate that an APU can play CP2077 at all, let alone at a playable frame rate on kinda acceptable settings! 10 years ago me wouldn't have thought AAA gaming would ever be possible on integrated graphics. I love it.
The great thing about Heroic Launcher is that you can use it on Windows too, so that way you can play the EGS games you own without having to install the Epic Games launcher/spyware.
Loving the Linux gaming content, I personally play on Linux as well but it's cool to see those comparisons!
Great to see you exploring alternative OS options now that Win10 is nearing the end, Steve. I've been gaming on Linux for years now and its great to see performance improving and also the market share. Long may it continue!
Perfect start to my Sunday
5 fps improvement when the avg is around 50 fps. Is a decent improvement. it could be the difference between a gpu tier like the difference of running a b570 or b580. I have to try linux for gaming. The windows 11 spyware edition is a concern by itself.
I think it was really cool that linus tech tips saw your previous video!!
Wait a bit so that wine/proton start to use the new “ntsync” kernel the results will be seriously astonishing I’m pretty sure, sooooo much overhead will be removed, no more wineserver needed basically, that will be sooooo goood :D
Please do a SteamOS benchmark for older games like NFS Underground, FEAR, older CoD games, Older Splinter Cell games, etc.
AN IMPORTANT THING TO KNOW ABOUT BAZZITE BEFORE BENCHMARKS: By default, during my installations, the OS always defaults it's power mode settings to "balanced," presumably assuming it's being installed on a mobile device, and trying to maintain their battery/thermals, but on a full desktop rig I found it severely impacted framerate, bouncing up and down as if the pc was thermal throttling. You'll want to make sure the first thing you do is set it to performance mode in the power settings to properly utilise your gpu!
When doing benchmarks please add also the 0.1% lows as ose are what really defines the player experinence in the end, the micro stutters and short lasting annoying fps drops :P
Great video. Happy to help with steamdeck performance.
