I was 8 when I was diagnosed with Asperger’s, my parents hid this from me until I was rediagnosed as an adult with added PDA. Once I confronted my parents with this, they responded with, “We just wanted you to be normal.” Do not do this! Had my parents been open about it, I could have gotten help and accommodations that would have made my life far more normal instead of just being a constant struggle and feeling anxious and very alone.
My cousin is actually the oldest living person with Rett syndrome right now! She has the biggest personality and despite her condition, she is the funniest person i’ve ever met. She volunteers and even does pageant modeling! I dearly love my cousin and I wish there was more research into her condition
I met a girl with Rett's syndrome in elementary school. She was generally in a wheelchair but sometimes she would be able to walk and run just fine. Same with speech or other social skills. She died when she was 13 almost randomly, like she was at school the week before and seemed fine for what she had. She was really sweet and we talked often since we were in the same third through fifth grade class.
I have PDD-NOS and it's always SOOO hard to explain to people what my ''autism'' exactly is, because it doesn't really fit in any specific box, seeing this video really makes it easier to explain it to other people aswell!
FINALLY someone that describes autism properly and with a positive outlook.. im so tierd of the media potraying autism as a disease like i literally lost friends because i told them i have aspberges but finally this video makes me feel like i dont have to be ashamed of how my brain works
I’m diagnosed with the PDA profile, and thank you for shedding light on what it means to be PDA. There’s so many misconceptions about it, even other autistic people say it “isn’t real”. But to see it on a big channel like this, explained in such an understanding way, is so relieving. Thank you so much!!!
Thank you for including that people with Rett are mentally intact. When my daughter was first diagnosed, one of the confirming markers for the clinical diagnosis was that we could tell that even though she's lost skills, she's still all there inside. My daughter is 26 right now and we are blessed to have her in our lives.
As a fellow autistic person myself (diagnosed at 4yo) , I very much appreciate you posting this video! It is a good way for people to be aware about the different types of autism and this shows people that autism is a huge spectrum.
I am an Asperger's gentleman who had the honor to work with students on the spectrum for seven years, and CDD is the SCARIEST condition I have experienced. We had a little girl who would age up year-wise while going completely backwards in development. There was...nothing we could do. We gave her every bit of support we could, but nothing would bring back the skills she would lose. It felt like the Benjamin Button situation but mentally. It really was devastating. This video is awesome, and was very good for helping me understand better what I worked with years ago. Super cool!
Our son is almost 26. He was diagnosed with Asperger’s when he was three. He had speech therapy from age three, all through grade school. Initially, we were told basically not to expect much as far as him having friends or even going to “regular” school. When he was old enough to understand, we would talk to him about having Asperger’s. We always worried what would happen to him after we are gone. We learned to let him know of any changes in his life, that we had control over, long before the changes happened, and that if he felt something needed to be done a certain way, rather than the way most people would do it, it was ok and just let him do it his way. We learned how stores or crowds sometimes are too much for him and we are okay with leaving early. He has several close friends. He had a job for 2 1/2 years before he decided to go back to college to be a Paleontologist. He went back last August and is home for the summer now. It was his first time away from home. We live in Oregon and he goes to Montana State University. It went really well. He has always loved dinosaurs and is following his dream and we support him in achieving that dream. We are very proud of our son and no longer worry about his future, because it looks pretty bright right now.
It's incredible watching this; I'm an alcoholic consuming 60+ units a day, husband gone, house gone, broken with depression killing me OCD, etc. I will continue fighting to get outta this hell, and I pray I find a solution. I heard a lot of people getting sober and becoming the best version of themselves through different natural ways, and I hope I can find a better way out. I can't continue living this way

I used to go to class with a kid with CDD, it’s heart breaking. His speech was very limited and he was a great kid. I hope he is doing better.
Thanks for posting this video. I'm an Asperger and its difficult for most people to understand how we function. Your video goes straight to the point and its very well explained.
Thank you for including PDA. I always wondered why my traditional, church going relatives never understood me and vice versa and why it always hurt following them. Makes so much more sense.
bro i have asperges YOU EXPLAINED IT PERFECTLY, social queues are very complex things for us, it's like deciphering hieroglyphics, i've figured it all out though now
As a Autistic 17 Year old I get made fun of all the time I thank you for making this video I was diagnosed at 12 and it's been hard
As someone with autism (not talking about classical autism), I now understand why it is a spectrum. Edit: From this video, I seem to have none, yet all (common forms of autism) all at once. I notice aspects/details of several. See my comment 8/10 replies below for more details.
