I love that you showed respect to the old owner and the Japanese culture by bringing the pieces from an altar to the local temple instead of just dumping them.
Not going to lie, I love that you're making this a series of sorts.
Literally teared up a little when you showed the dog photo and mentioned your intentions for it. She's probably looking over this, holding her dog, and smiling.
It's so bittersweet to watch, the old owner's lived such interesting lives. Glad to see that as much as possible has been donated or found new homes some other way. I'm so invested in seeing the house come alive. Also Ushka's determination in getting the house in the first place after all those years is inspiring!
So, a couple of tips. Always, ALWAYS check the pockets. Many people use the pockets of old clothes to hides their goodz because they're the last place most criminals want to spend time rifling through. My grandmother did this but didn't tell us and a couple expensive rings got disappeared that way. This might not be a thing in Japan, but I'm throwing it out there anyways. Also, based on basic research, your diamond could sell in the US for anywhere between $800 and $2000, depending on cut, color, clarity and inclusions. That Kanji might be telling you the color and grade of the diamond. What the diamond is worth in Japan? Don't know. Good luck on your treasure hunting!
If you find any gold bars, I’ll take good care of them.
I feel like this is the beginning of a premise for an anime that takes place in both times: one half is the people cleaning out the house, and the other half is the person or people when they still lived there that gives context to it all.
I know the whole point is to be neko neko but this house screams Inu Inu! With all the dogs maybe can be the neko neko and friends inn lol😂
Sharla I highly suggest getting everything you wont use appraised and maybe you can make back the money to remodel the home! You and Ushka hit the treasure trove! It looked like the woman was a geisha, those wigs are immaculate. I got emotional when you showed the photo of the owners shitzhu 🥺 Thank you for making this series and it felt like we discovered this all together 🤭
I have a feeling that the owner of the house was a kabuki actor or a former Geisha with all those expensive items and the wigs. Also I do know that people in those industries usually get a lot of expensive gift from their clients or fans.
Keeping this airbnb dog themed to reuse all the dog paraphernalia you found would be a fun pairing to the neko house. Also, you might have a real vintage tiffany lamp on your hands!
Omg I think you have geisha stuff there! The padded kimono already made me think that might be the case, but the wigs make it very likely. You really should have someone look at the kimono. Hikizuri (the long trailed padded kimono) can be worth quite a bit if they look nice enough for people to want to buy them.
It makes my heart hurt that someone's life was just left and no family came to claim things like the home movies, but I'm glad the home and lots of the items will be given a second chance thanks to you both. 💙
The fact that you will be incorporating certain pieces from the house into the new build is so heartwarming to hear. ❤ Happy reno, ladies.
If that Tiffany lamp is real, it will be worth more than the diamond! Something to look into because it could really help pay off the renovations, depending on how rare it is ☺️ good luck! ❤️
If you're renovating this as an Airbnb type place I think it would be a really fun idea to have a scavenger hunt board thing for the guests who come in, comprised of all the things you've kept from the previous owner! Maybe making a bulletin board with pictures of the things you kept with little paper checklists in a cute holder nearby so that people can keep track of what they've found so far. Just my 2 cents, but that would be an absolute gem for me if I stayed somewhere that did that. You could say that it'd be a diamond in the rough 😉 (honestly this idea would work for other guests as well, not just if it was an Airbnb thing, in general just something I thought could be cool!)
Would love to get a little update video(probably as a short) once you get the jewelry appraised
I never wanted this video to end! Simultaneously heartbreaking and fascinating. How wonderful this home is in such good, caring hands now.
Oh man, after finding the diamond I feel like I would have cancelled the cleaners and gone through everything hahah. What a fun house!!
