It also hosted the LA Dodgers while Dodger Stadium was being constructed. It still holds the record for the largest crowd for a World Series. This record will probably never be beat.

@elsongs

"Built nearly a century ago..." The Coliseum turned 100 years old already in 2023.

@TheHuskyK9

To critics saying it will fall into disrepair after the Olympics are over, this isn't Rio. Exposition Park is already being used and upkept DAILY because USC is the master lease holder of the land, and they've been very attentive in keeping it maintained ever since. As someone who actually lives next to USC, I can confirm that fact. As for the homeless, they will do just like they did in 1984 and what other hosting nations also did, they will forcibly relocate them, as sad as that sounds. LA has the money to address the homelessness issue, but with how our infrastructure is set up (and corporations buying up and hoarding land), it takes YEARS to see any progress. Even just reporting potholes in the city streets takes months for them to come out and fill it up.

@hc1883

I agree all of the opening ceremonies should be at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and it should not be split at Sofi Stadium. The Paris opening ceremonies were awkward with one of the major reasons was because the locations were distributed all across the city. Los Angeles should not make that same mistake in 2028. The LA Coliseum has a great rich history and should be front and center for such a historic event and the venue is more than up to date with recent renovations too to make it an enjoyable experience for all of those who'll attend that you don't need all the modern bells and whistles of Sofi Stadium.

So the parade of nations and some of the 1-2 hour ceremonies is going to happen at Sofi Stadium but the highlight of the evening which is lighting of the Olympic torch is going to be at the LA Coliseum? Which means the athletes will have to watch the Olympic torch being lit on the Halo Screen at Sofi Stadium? That'd be pretty anticlimactic for the athlete themselves.

Will both Sofi Stadium and the LA Coliseum both be filled with spectators while on the video screens they watch the ceremonies happening at each venue that opening night? Just makes it more confusing then it needs to be honest.

@petelosuaniu

The Colisuem should host the opening ceremony exclusively. Sofi can host the closing

@carlfromtheoc1788

Dodgers also played there when they moved to L.A. and set single game and total home attendance World Series records which are likely to never be equalled or broken. It was also host to the original XFL championship game. Bonus, the nearby Science and Technology museum has the Space Shuttle Discovery, and the only surviving external liquid fuel tank from the shuttle program. The adjacent Natural History Museum is also pretty cool.

The upgrades to the science museum will allow for the shuttle to be displayed vertiacall, along with the big fuel tank and has been planned for a number of years. What helps is that there is a light rail stop a short distance from the Stadium, and overall the whole light rail/subway network has been really built out.

@RocketCat525

Great Video. you didn’t mention it also hosted a NASCAR Race From 2022 To 2024 They Called it The LA Clash At The Colosseum they paved a race track inside the stadium It was a cool race

@williamlloyd3769

Homeless problem is here and will persist no matter if Olympics occur or not.
PS — As to maintaining Exposition Park, USC, the master lease holder, has been exemplary in upgrading the entire park in the past and I assume in future.
PS2 — thanks for explaining how the temporary track will be installed at the LA Coliseum

@scottkessel952

On bucket list to visit for sure

@ricksamericana749

How did you forget to mention The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum was the home of the first Super Bowl?

@johnbehneman1546

THANK YOU SO MUCH. THAT IS A TOTALLY AWSOME UPGRADE FOR THE 2028 LA OLYMPICS!!!!

@snoozeflu

It would be brilliant if they brought back Sam the Olympic Eagle as a mascot.

@ec1628

Forgot mention the Coliseum was home to the Dodgers and UCLA Football

@ten4k964

My mom took me to see Nelson Mandela speak at the Coliseum when i was a kid

@chapsnaps1

The one thing that people remember from the 1984 Olympics is the grand pianos playing Gershwin at the opening ceremony - and the guy in the jet suit.
Everything else that happened was secondary!

@Pacificoceanaz

LA coliseum and rose bowl unique stadiums.

@dananderson3077

very interesting...great channel!

@jeremyluciani7449

Great video!

@Heath580

One of the nice things about being a sports obsessed nation is that most of the infrastructure already exists

@GregoryFariss

1:18 not sure where that is, but it’s not the Coliseum. Otherwise, great video. It was interesting to see how they intend to raise the floor back up.
