@AuthenticTraveling

You can watch my long form version where I go into more detail about my experience with $1 in Damascus

@botandrew1

Keep in mind, that he bought all that from tourist spots which are more expensive than any non-tourist area or shops

@Getsuryu-z2v

Im syrian and currently still living there.
Just to let you know the tamer hindi was a bit expensive a cup costs 500 cuz they sell it in plastic bags each bag has enough for 6 people now a bag usually costs 5000 SP but the tamer hindi tends to be a bit more expensive 7000 SP
so it should been sold for 1000 a cup.
Bonus:its not a pizza its a cheese pie
A pizza costs between 2 and 7 dollars.
It may seem cheap to tourists but for the people that are living here everything is expensive cuz a normal person would make between 10 and 40 bucks a month
And there are exceptions that make more than 40 but are rarely seen

That date pastry bread looks amazing 🤤

I was in Syria in 1977. I was highly impressed by the beauty and sites across the country. Unforgettable.

I m Indian I had 2 Syrian friends working with me in uae.. during the 2015 war .. one friend lost his entire family got crushed 8 members and while on duty hours he gets a call.. worst thing is since I use to work in administration HR .. he use to always tell me he has kids and parents and family and he send almost 80% for family and save a little just for a sunny day.. I couldn’t even look in his eyes feeling so ashamed.. it was the worst ever situation to even say something..the innocent always suffer … every time I think about war I always remember him even though now I m back in India… I hope and pray this never happens to anyone .. let’s get together and put a pause to all the war.. we don’t need to die.. innocent don’t need to die or suffer.. God is great … everything will pass by with time.. let’s hope and pray ..❤

@laughingbehelit

In 2009 1 USD was 60 lira!
That should tell you how terrible the war has been for the Syrian people. I hope things get better with all my heart

@myjinji8079

While comparing it to US prices like many people tend to do, don’t forget to compare living standards and average income as well.

@edenk3653

Gorgeous country, rich culture and wonderful people. I hope it gets back to what it was once before ❤

@wghannam1982

$1 used to be 50 liras when I was a kid

Yes that’s the official exchange rate, you get more lira on the market

@jotfohm4644

I am Syrian. l live in Damascus.
This is Souq-Al-Hameediyah where you are filming. And I am literally lost for words, and can only lament what happened to my country in these last 13 years..

@MsSimpleMovies

When we lived there before the war, $1 = 50 Lira, if I remember correctly. Thanks for taking us back to Hamadiyyah. Next, try some Syrian ice cream / bouza. It's incredible. God protect the people and their country, ameen.

@mohdhamoda

@amelbachir3788

This blew my mind, I was studying in sirya in 2009 and I use to change 100 euros for 7.000 liras. Also with that money you had like more than enough to live for at least 1 month, food and eating out use to be like so so cheap. This broke my heart for the Syrians

@spiderphone4430

As a Christian Syrian who still lives in Damascus till this moment I would like to say thank you for visiting and you will always be welcomed.
Just wanted to correct a little thing the cheese you ate is not the Syrian Pizza , we have normal Pizza like all other countries , what you ate is a different thing and it could be cheese or something else on top.
