1. Schedule and restrict distractions 2. Make it a habit - Schedule it in (1hrs) 3. Daily shutdown ritual - Schedule next day
I used a method of studying similar to this. I'd go to the library on a Saturday for three 2-hour study sessions. A total of six hours. I first sit in the lobby for 5 minutes and think about what I'm going to achieve in the next two hours. Then I'd go in ready to go. No distractions like at home. After two hours I'd leave for a 20 minute walk or lunch. I'd come back and repeat the process. Works really well if you have a friend doing it too. You can discuss in the lobby what you are going to get done. (Don't sit next to each other when you go into the library and hit the bathroom first!) Even if you are not studying the same subjects it works really well at keeping each other accountable. I find I can't do more than 6 hours. 8 is too much.
I remember being back at uni in the 90s, everything was deep work back then. It's a shame now how we've built a society technology-fuelled distraction around us.
In a world full of distractions, Cal Newport’s message is a wake-up call. Deep work isn’t just productive—it’s fulfilling. This video did an awesome job highlighting why focus is the real superpower today!
Thank you. I have read the book and I honestly wouldn’t recommend it because the three or four main points you said was the only thing that I got from that. Otherwise, I felt like I spent hours rereading the same sort of stuff where I could’ve been using the time on deep work.
By Performing Deep Work, You Bring Out Your True Potential!
Schedule distraction breaks Work early morning Evening shutdown, sleep!!
We all probably had times when we were immersed into deep work, and what we acomplished was amazing, its amazing that someone can formulate it and direct us where to go. Thank you for the review I'm listening currently to audiobook.
I was a highschool students attended a boarding school. It had such a rigid schedule to follow all the time. At first, I hated it but now it becomes my life. I have read the book and it really reflects my life then. Trust me you will gain much out of your time and life when you schedule your day and do deep work.
Wonderful Work! One simply cannot go wrong by investing 10 - 15 minutes daily with this kind of learning. Fantastic video book review. Splendid example of "clarity and brevity". THNAK YOU!
Funny how I used to do this things back in college.. Without even knowing its deep work..
Deep work. Dapat matulog para may lakas kinabukasan. At Meron dapat distraction time sa akin mga 12:00 am watching this book reviews about productivity.
One of my favourite books of all time! But man, killer visualizations!
I have ADHD, when I enter into hyperfocus, I do deep work for weeks on end... only to not do much work for a few days/weeks after that phase. Oh, our brains are full of surprises!
Now this is what I call value content. Thankyou productivity game for doing what you do, you are obviously helping us so much
Before the existence of the internet, "deep work" used to be known as "work"
Great summary, many thanks - deep work is enjoyable! - my tips for what it's worth: The deep task is 'setup' and the first task of the day, known the night before so I can "sleep on it"; cardio or some type of vigorous exercise followed by stretching relaxes me down into the deep zone; no emails and boundaries are drawn clearly with co-workers, phones are out of view; tea vs coffee; I repeat certain music daily, and it triggers the same modality and type of thinking; I use warm-up tasks to ease into deep tasks; Outcomes are clear, if I can't 'see' where I'm going, I won't achieve anything; I try to avoid stimulants later in the day, shallow sleep prevents me having gas in the tank to do deep work. The adenosine / caffeine relationship is very true for my body - I may not be able to sleep but in that state I can do no meaningful work either
What I'm working on harnessing right now. Thanks for this video ❤
Thanks for helping me feel like I'm not alone with my challenge to focus. Been trying to get it all together to apply for a specific job and its been weeks or maybe even months now that I've been preparing. Lucky for me, they need a lot of people and keep re-posting the job. You two are BRILLIANT and Fun!
