@cristinapatino8726

Thank you, Cal. I like cooking, painting, reading, exercise and petting my pets to relieve my stress. I call at least one friend a day saves my day.

@groovysecondhalf

When I became a digital nomad in 2018, moved to europe and signed a contract that did not include meetings and availability by I started getting so much actual work completed. (In my case financial statement preparation and budgets / forecasts). Being in a time zone on the other side of the world was such a gift. My routine became ~ open emails, prioritize my day, get work completed and send emails at the end of the day.

@groovysecondhalf

Started utilizing your way to staying organized in Apple Notes and absolutely love it. I find it easier to see the whole pictures this way versus using the task manager. I just cut & paste things from Actions to Waiting or Back Burner, etc. Apple Notes has been improved with Sub-Headings, new formatting options and a list option. Start everyday reviewing and getting my day organized. Also keeping my first paper organizer utilizing the Bullet Journal basics. My calendar is still on my iPhone because I share calendars with my husband.

@MrRockso99

Paul Graham talks about “maker time” vs “manager time”. I’ve had success limiting my admin type tasks like email to discrete blocks of time. Other times, I have a habit of never checking my email. It does result in stress reduction and linear progress on admin tasks.

@earnhar768

So happy for you that you finally changed your shirt. I like the new shirt. 😁

@cdbrown30

The podcast format is fine with me.

I’d like to watch the video just so that I can fully understand the helpful advice and fully cement it.

@blackham7

Your theory is absolutely right, Cal. I've been using my digital devices to escape from the stress of my responsibilities. I should be substituting my devices for valuable hobbies whenever I feel stressed, instead of trying to resist the urge to procrastinate period.

@JDirty-w-tha-30

The content of these videos is connecting a lot more since I went back to school. My workload feels insane, taking me 6-10 hours of studying a day but a lot of that is from inefficient work. When I'm fresh it's no issue to quickly pick on complicated concepts. My problem is running out of brain juice after only a short time and it seems to be getting worse over time. I lose focus and the ability to make sense of what I'm reading. I have very ADHD like behaviors and symptoms I think to a clinical level. But that just sounds like a poor excuse and is probably something I'm creating in large part from my technology use and daily habits.

@kimmieshimmie

Watching this video about distraction while distracted from the things I want to do and know I need to do.

@delancyj67

18:46 You don't have to go that far back. I went from being a primary school teacher, to welder to office worker. I will most definitely choose an office that's too hot over accidently getting burned with hot metal.

@aburaziel

"Foundational Pursuits" is a foundational idea! Have you explicated on it somewhere else? Thank you Cal.

@biegebythesea6775

having an idea isn't enough in terms of momentum, especially if you are compelled by many ideas and you've had them circulating in your mind for decades. these ideas keep me up at night. i still procrastinate.

@michaelkelemenToronto

I don't see why reading a book about Daniel Boone which you mentioned in another video is better than reading articles in wikipedia. Before covid I used to love going to Starbucks and reading there with a coffee. Sometimes I read books, sometimes articles online. Both were on my tablet and both were informative and fun.

@Sodaheiress

I only wish Cal’s episodes were longer. Go Rogan and give us 3 hours Cal!

@Aeifygia

@Cal Newport: do you take cortesole?

@Anurag_3824

Dear Sir, I would like to know when we know about distraction and its solution. Why we keep repeating the same mistake again and again? I think lack of self-discipline.

@Devon_maloy

Uncle Cal just said I don’t need to use Social tools including email until after my book is ready to print

@77NickDale

Who's the producer?

@JonnyVPC

Yeaaa the corner strum. Looking at my Deep Research question here on gpt and the vibe is very Cal. Just saying.

@huntsail3727

Echo, the format comments below. I appreciate the full drawn out explanations, but I would also like a concise summary at times. I don't think it has to be an either/or, binary solution. Cal can do both.
My guestimate on why he doesn't is how the show is monetized, but that is just a guess based on experience not first hand information.
