I am now the neighborhood eccentric thx Chris Liepe!
With each video I feel more confident, playful and inspired. Hopeful that my voice will one day sound so free spirited and alive.
The neighbors are not gonna have a great time after i try any of these
I'd been doing lip trills for ages then I had an appointment with an ENT and she instantly could see I was doing it wrong. It took me 2 sessions with the ENT to do it properly. The way she told me to do it was: 1 - focus the sound towards my upper-lip (resonance) 2 - don't let the larynx rise at all even when going all the way up my mixed voice 3 - use the diaphragm 100%, if you use throat at all then your larynx will lock up 4 - if doing sirens, don't let the pitch suddenly jump up or down (I used to just skip through my passagio on the descend) 5 - use compression to drag out the lip trill longer, otherwise you'll just run out of breath quickly Once I was able to do the lip trills properly I had noticed a lot of problems with my singing had been fixed.
Great list! Thank you for the clear explanation as to why some of these traditional exercises are not on your “best” list. This perfectly explains why my voice gets fatigued way faster singing choir songs with precise notes and strict timing than singing free and abandoned distortion/aggressive vocals. 🤔 It also gives me a game plan to focus on being more relaxed, not tensing or pushing or striving for notes, while singing choir songs. 🙌 Very helpful video. Thank you 🙏🥰
I've watched a lot of singing videos, including a lot of yours, and this is at least one of the best ones. Thank you.
Whats making you produce so many amazing videos all of a sudden! This is the chris liepe we know and love
resonance and tone communicate a lot regardless of the notes . It makes sense that focus on them would help the voice naturally
Thank you! It was insightful to review some of the exercises from your opinion
So fun and educational for me. Thank you!
I couldn't agree more!
I totally agree with Chris on all this. You don't get locked into blasting all one volume and creating tension you use dynamics and different registrations and realize all the different colors you can obtain and unlock your voice at the same time.
Wouldn't it be ranked worst to best? Absolutely love your videos, goes in great depth. And I always felt like scales strained my voice because I kept pushing to do the higher notes.
Thanks needed a video on this.
So much of that resonates with my experience! Great stuff!
I’ve been trying to tell if I could actually trust you as a YouTube vocal coach but I definitely do now. All the vocal teachers will tell you to do those exercises you put lower and I find my neck becoming way more tense than it would normally, and it’s supposed to eliminate tension. They just say “do these lip trills throughout your range without squeezing” etc which I physically can not help doing
This is very helpful!! I feel like these days a "Tier List" might of been suitable for this! Maybe a future video! :elbowcough:
Thank you so much for this video! Recently, I've been hesitating to try some of these techniques, out of fear of them negatively affecting my voice. Honestly, I thought I was being rather presumptuous (by hoping to become better at it, especially as someone who has singing only for a hobby and discontinued training for the last 3 years). But watching your analysis videos recently, inspired me to try nevertheless, and this one in particular, really helped clarify my doubts. So thank you:)
Chris Liepe The Best 👍💯
