They say there is always an Indian guy on YouTube with a tutorial for any topic. Now an Indian guy made the best tutorial for relativity. I guess we can see "how to build a time machine" tutorial soon from some Indian guy. Amazing job.
this guy is THE BEST, MOST CLEAR EXPLAINER, after 50 years of attending lecttures, reading hundreds of books. the guy has a gift... thank you so much
I cannot explain how good this video is. In the history of YouTube viewing, I have never ever come across such an amazing explanation such a simple way to explain the complex thing. Probably even a noble prize winner would not explain so clearly. Hats off to your teaching skills, and you have hit the bulls eye is animations and everything. Wish I could meet you some day. Brilliant brilliant brilliant.
This is the best description I have ever heard! You did a great job showing intuitively why it's impossible to reach or surpass the speed of light.
I’m 52 and have a college degree (granted in history) and am also a big sci fi guy. This is the first explanation I’ve heard that actually made sense, even in physics classes. Thank you.
It never once occurred to me, that because the speed of light is constant, when an object is moving it effectively means that light has to travel more distance... but it's not going any faster to compensate... and that is literally what time dilation spawns from. I love that. Thanks man.
You got to be proud explaining such a complex concept so easily that anyone can understand. God bless you forever
I'm a psychologist but have always had a crush for math and science and just stumbled with this video and wow this was so nurturing. I cannot thank you enough for this explanation. I've thought about this topic for a bit while waiting in hospitals or banks but you just gave me the pieces to make everything CLICK. I'm Grateful!!!
Your enthusiasm for physics is simply inspiring. Keep up the good work!!
I consume quite a bit of physics content on YouTube, and this video truly stands out as one of the best I’ve seen. I’ve never seen any of your videos before, but I am looking forward to seeing more!!!
Another explanation for this question is: When we travel at any speed there is a relative increase in mass. It can be calculated by an equation similar to what he explained about time dilation equation. M M ' = ---------------------- √{ 1- (V²÷C²)} So if we travel at "c" the relative mass will be ♾️ To accelerate an object with infinite mass require infinite Energy which is not possible. Detailed explanation At 99% c - Relative mass(M ') is 7.1 times M At 99.9% c - M ' is 22.4×M At 99.99% c - M ' is 70.7×M At 99.999% c - M ' is 223.6×M At 99.9999% c - M ' is 707.1×M At 99.99999% c - M ' is 2236×M So its clear from the above results that as we are approaching c the mass of the space ship increases unimaginably. To accelerate a ship from 99.9999% to 99.99999% would require very high energy as mass increase from 707 times to 2236 times. In this way mass increases and increases and close to light speed the mass will be very very large. And to accelerate such a heavy object further requires infinite energy. Which is not possible. Hence anything which has mass can never travel at light speed. Anything which doesn't have mass could. And why does mass increase when something move? To move an object, it should have Kinetic energy. This kinetic energy will be converted to mass as of the equation E=MC² It even happen in our day to day life when we travel with some velocity our mass increases but its too negligible.
I'm actually so proud, I understood this by thinking about it the same way you did, because nobody on Youtube could explain it in concrete terms. Every body usually resorts to a very abstract explanation: "the faster you move across space the slower you move across time", which doesn't explain anything, it's just phrasing the problem differently. It's as if I was asked "why are zebras black and white" and I answered "well that's easy, it's because you see them that way"
This is exactly the types of videos I don't want to watch before going to sleep, because now, my brain is going faster than the speed of light and next thing you know it's time to wake up!!!
Clicked on this with the intent to read a few comments to glimps the idea, as I didn't think I'd fully comprehend. Instead, I watched the whole video. Fantastic explination, verbally and visually.
I know I'm like super late to this, but I have a follow up question. I understand the reasoning that you can't go faster than the force vectors affecting you, since they can't affect you, if you are going as fast as them. What I don't understand is: why that means we can't go faster than light specifically. Isn't it possible that there is an undiscovered force vector capable of travelling faster than photons, which could then allow you to surpass the speed of light?
This is the most intuitive video on the time dilation that I have seen ever.
Photons don’t exist then? Because photons travel at the speed of light which means time stands still for them. That means the moment a photon is created is also the same moment the photon is annihilated, right? They exist for 0 amount of time so they do not exist?
