There is a rich French history. Many things to take pride in. The performance in WW2 is not one of them. France was considered a military superpower at the time. Being invaded and surrendering in six weeks is an objectively bad performance.

My Dutch Father fought in the American armee, in the Marines because The Netherlands had no armee anymore, but my Father and his mates (Mariniers we call them) refused to surrender to Germany and they fought themselves even to England, but England did not let them in their armee but The Americans did and with help of the English marine they were brought to America, where my Father went to South Carolina for his training as an American Marine. You know what happened when he came back, some crazy dutch leaders where trying to get his pasport off, because he joined an armee in an other country. There where still nsb people right after the war. But i thank my Father and i Thank America from the bottom of my Soul and God Bless America.

And The United States is the only country that stayed and helped rebuild not only Europe, But, Japan as well. It was the United States who helped feed Germany, Holland and many others. Granted Russia played a large part during the war, but, it wasn't without a huge amount of American material support.
