This music video makes me tear up every time because it shows what a toxic person can do to a sensitive soul who loves them deeply.💔 It has been a year since I left my toxic friend who kicked, punched, and pushed me where I bled and had bruises. It felt like she was the leech sucking my blood and never satisfied. I was confused at first thinking she was playing but I got help and I ended it possibly in the worst way (I really don't know), but this song will forever hug my broken heart and heal it🫂 thank you melanie for healing me during hard times💜

It's actually interesting that the girl realizes she was used ONLY AFTER she SEES bigger bite marks unexpectedly. The leech has been sucking her blood at many points throughout the video, insinuating she was ALWAYS used. She just never saw it before because she liked her quality time with him. I've heard that having fake friends and long-term abuse is kinda like this. You never know you're being hurt and have been hurt until they pull the last straw.

I kinda feel like the scene where they’re watering the flower symbolizes something, like the girl is pouring a lot more water into the pot than the leech and it’s kinda showing how she’s putting more effort into the friendship than the leech is

ik a lot of people are taking this as relationships but I like how it can go deeper when we make friends with the enemies in our head or think our illnesses are our friend especially if u suffer from anorexia , bulimia, depression,drugs,alcohol , bad habits, etcs., u get used to thinking its helping you and then ur stuck with despair after so long and many fall victim to death or suicide. thank you melanie for your beautiful interpretation of art and how you allow it to have multiple meanings in such a bittersweet way .
