The fact that Bulma calls Nappa “Trunks’ Uncle” despite Vegeta clearly not knowing that it was Nappa implies that Bulma not only got in touch with Nappa, but developed a strong enough friendship to trust him with her sons life without having Vegeta with her. Oh to be a fly on the wall for that..
