What I have heard from Indonesians is that after the Indonesian Gov took over the transmigration project it has become primarily a chess game of religions. The islamic gov is basically moving muslims from Java to island and places where other religions are the mayorities in order to increase the muslim demographics. Vice versa they solely move hindus from Bali to decrease their share and increase the share of muslims. When looking into the official statistics it does seem like the accusations are right…

it was not all failed. looked at north sumatera, it was one of the hotspot of transmigration program since dutch. now the capital is fourth biggest city in indonesia

Most of the transmigrant were from rural areas in central and east Java, not Jakarta, that's why Jakarta population is not decreasing but increasing since all people from Indonesia are migrating to Jakarta. If Jakartan were sent to a transmigration program they won't survive in a day. To seek the truth you should see by yourself how the transmigration villages in Sumatra Borneo and Papua are doing now and what changes they bring merely by google earth. Don't just read an obsolete report published in 1978

You should look one level deeper into this topic because since the last 4 decades the main idea for the indonesian government is to change the demographics of regions where the majority is non-muslim. The example of Bali shows that in fact they only move non-muslims, thus hindus, so that in the near future Bali will be predominantly muslim. The other religions are broken down in small groups and moved to strongly predominant muslim areas where they will hopefully assimilate in the near future. Those people have unfortunately no platform so this fact is not well known, but when you talk to hindus or christians in Indonesia you will hear exactly what I just described.

Its not ruining indonesia, the people who transmigrate became very prosperous, the region that accepted transmigration also became developed because of the infrastructure and public works project that came with the transmigration program, it also bring job to local populace as well..
