He needs to remember that the minimum requirement is 2% of GDP. 8 of the 32 NATO member nations are not currently meeting that threshold. These countries must be held to account. However, that is not Hegseth role. There is a good case to raise the minimum threshold, but again this is not for the utterly incompetent Hegseth to demand.

Europe should dissolve NATO instead. It should have been dissolved in 1990 at the break up of the Soviet Union as having become irrelevant to its stated purpose. Europe should seek a new security arrangement without the USA, one which would include all the Eastern European countries and Russia. That Russia has never been able to join The European Union (because of US interference) despite seeking admission many times over the years is yet another example of the abject failure of the USA across the world. Hegarty is a disgrace
