Short answer: lol Long answer: lmao
"Alright so the remaining debt is 1.3 billion" "Best i can do is 170 million"
soviet union: son pay my debts when i collapse russia: say less father
north korea owes sweden 330 million for 1000 volvos from back in 1974
What price can you put on temporary friendship? -Soviet union probably
The fact that something was paid is actually stunning Edit: due to an increasing amount of Soviet fanboys coming here and trying to say "HurR, bUt MuH cAsUuLties" to try and legitimise the Soviet war effort, I need to outright state that I am not downplaying that, I am saying that the fact that the Soviet Union didnt cancel the debt mid-Cold War is surprising.
The UK had a lend lease agreement with the Soviets in WW2. What was not destroyed , while fighting, became liable for payment. Perfectly good aeroplanes were buried to avoid being liable. Some were recently dug up.
When another country owes you a million, they have a problem When another country owes you a billion, you have a problem!
For those who don't know, 11 billion in 1941 is around 200 billion today, or one-fourth of the US military budget.
When I went to a military museum in Russia they told the story about the Studebaker trucks. The usable trucks were supposed to be returned to the United States, but then the Soviets found out that in Americans were just destroying them so as to not flood the civilian Market with unnecessary trucks. Once they found that out they wrote off the trucks as destroyed even though they are perfectly good
I was always told "lend lease" was a loophole to reduce the chance of a direct war with Germany, and the USA never really expected to be paid back. It was more like paying to stay out of the war.
I read somewhere that, at the end of the war, the Soviets buried lend lease equipment and reported it as destroyed during the war rather than return it or pay for it.
It feels kinda odd seeing Soviet plans for the twenty first century Edit: Finally checked this. Wow, that's a lot of attention. Anyways, people are being bozos in the replies. Neither the US nor USSR "won" the space race, both countries had their share of firsts.
I wonder how much that would have been if they counted interests.
I wonder if Russia has any still functioning lend lease equipment
Soviet Union really left its debts to Russia before dying
Pepsi: exists Soviet Union: YOU CAN TAKE OUR ENTIRE STOCK!
Huh, I'm surprised Russia continued to pay the money after the fall of the USSR and didn't just go "Country ya gave it to don't exist no more, shame for you guys"
Both countries helped each other and the war would’ve been far more difficult than it already was without each other. I’m sure everyone can agree with that.
