@Henbot

Actual Vampire horror scene šŸ˜‚

@Recyclabled

The way his eyes reflect in the dark as he approaches her is so unnerving

@HippoKing.MP3

Heavens forbid a creature of the night act the part... why was this cut?

"Hes taking advantage of a helpless woman!" Like durge didnt split Alphira open like a ripe bell pepper....

@ComradeFuzzy

Astarion origin still has moments like this.

The camp night bite scene, you can bite your companions, they stay asleep if you pass a dc5 stealth check.

Pass or fail, you still bite them without consent. And if you pass the check, you can choose to stop after a feed or drain them to death if it's not Gale or Karlach.

Companion Astarion obviously fails the stealth check when you get the night bite scene in other origin runs.

@evs1580

Tav: free my boy he's innocent
The boy in question:

@mangana215

Thats 100% evil astarion, hope they add it back

@1vandread

Do I think this scene was cut due to being ā€œcontroversialā€? No.

I think it was cut for not making sense for 2 reasons:
1) As Astarion, it makes no sense to feed in front of the group, who you’re trying to downplay being monstrous, or expose yourself if you haven’t told them yet. Either way, narratively it wouldn’t make sense for a character, whose own survival is his #1 priority, to expose himself so publicly.
2) There’s already a bite scene in camp, where you (Astarion) can choose to ā€œviolateā€ a companion. Which I feel is more practical for the character, than random Teethling #27.

@ccc2839

how is this worse than literally every thing Dark Urge did?

@kay-kay6483

Vampires have always been creatures of sexual horror. From Dracula to Nosferatu, they're meant to be intimate predators that are meant to warn people, especially women, away from premarital sex. So this... is kinda doing the vampire thing right.

@chunkycoone5040

They remove this becuase it would be problematic!? Bruh that's how a vampire would do! Literal horror!!!

@itim_cold

"Why are you looking at me like that?"
Astarion : 😬

@anima4real866

I'd like the creators of the vampire origin mod to add this back.

@smol_angr_void7224

I think this scene was removed for a few reasons, none of them being that the scene was "too much", as some have (perhaps understandably) suggested:
1. Astarion, at this point in the game, is trying to avoid getting staked for being a monster. Even if he already told the party members he's a vampire, they likely wouldn't accept this objectively monstrous behavior, and would kill him. Even if the party members deemed not to kill him, there's a whole grove of tieflings out there that would be alerted by her screams and would try to kill him. In the interest of self-preservation, there's no way he would consider this an option.
2. If Astarion had not told the party yet, this would be a vampire reveal scene and Larian would likely have to write specific dialog for it, given the uniquely horrific circumstances of the revelation.
3. If you do something hostile in any other playthrough, she screams for help and the guards come in to fight you. You couldn’t have the complete scene due to the guards interrupting, and it wouldn't make sense to have the guards come in only AFTER the scene, despite them immediately getting involved in basically any other situation.
4. There are already biting options in act 1 that serve a similar purpose without Astarion needlessly running a stupidly large risk of getting slaughtered by his own party and a bunch of armed, hostile refugees.
5. So much quality content was already cut for assorted reasons, some of them seemingly needlessly. Given that Astarion already has markedly more content specific to him than any other party member, it's possible that Larian cut this segment to avoid the issue being even more bloated and unreasonable.

So, my speculation as to the removal of the scene is that, while Astarion might be tempted by the opportunity for blood if it were under different circumstances, there's no way in hell, character-wise, that he would jeopardize his safety in such a massive way as this (at least not so early in the game) for a snack. Hence, it would be nonsensical for Larian to give the writers and actors even MORE work to fill in the fallout of this option when it already didn't make sense, and would just bring up consistency questions for the other NPCs involved in addition to increasing the gap in companion/origin character content.

But hey, that's just my theory, idk, I don’t work for Larian. Thanks for reading! šŸ˜…

@danielcooper3332

They should have kept this. Cazador didn't let Astarion drink people blood; he made him drink animal blood from rats and dogs. It's well with his character for a starving Astarion to find a helpless woman alone and take the opportunity to drink her blood.

@britt6184

Yeah, this shouldn't have been removed.

I just love the hypocrisy in this fandom that many players' favorite customizable origin gets to go around being as murderous and depraved as they wish but the literal blood thirsty creature of the night has to be defanged and turned into a sweet little puppy that would never hurt a fly, even though he literally has many lines that very strongly suggest otherwise.

Even in his nicest ending Astarion is still doing what he loves, taking lives, only in a more socially acceptable manner.

Astarion is and always has been an evil character. Evil isn't just muahaha doing bad things all the time. Many do good things to serve their own agenda which I believe would suit Astarion most until he is able to usurp Cazador.

I believe the game would have been much better if it had been allowed to keep more of its edge. Why not if it's already an m-rated game? But instead we got nerfed storylines and the bear scene.

@phantomkillerprime8444

So they remove this, but leave in that Durge just snaps her legs off like twigs to kill her? (I know that it isn't depicted after you choose that dialog option however it is very much implied that you tear off her legs to kill her)

@marcohubahib9160

I mean he’s a redeemable evil character, idk why they took this scene out lmao i mean 90% of the game is kill on sight, even if ā€œenemiesā€ are asleep

@DavidGonzalez-zl3dz

Didn't Durge beat Alfira to death and admit to eating babies? And this was too much?

@edain6918

The scene of Astarion circling the girl while staring at her with that murderous gaze is nightmare fuel.

@SillyLilFennec

Man why in the hells they cut this? THIS IS AWESOME. The music and the hunter-predator gaze?? LIKE- this has a LOT of old-school vampires vibes, the weird-sexual-terror scenario. I love this bc is like seeing how Astarion worked as a Cazador's spawn.

Mannn Im so frustrated rn
