this documentary was most definitely eye opening, thank you for putting in the effort and uploading this.
Watching this video filled me with gratitude. Alhamdulillah.. May God bless and help those in need.
Surprised to see that $18,000 USD is considered microfinancing and would be given without proving income to repay the loan.. It is a lot of money to just loan with no collateral.. Even in the US getting a non-secured loan for $18,000 is very very difficult without sufficient income and credit..
I live in Cambodia. It is sad to see the way some of the people live. However, I have seen the same in the US. The lack of a proper education across the world is helping the poor get poorer. It is happening in every country. Good video, but it isn't just Cambodia!
A wonderful documentary, thanks DW.❤❤❤ People falling into debt trap is the stark reality of poverty this is a vicious circle.
This is a heartbreaking documentary, but their story needs to be told
Very informative documentary, DW you are the best
Same here in Bangladesh although Dr. Yunus win nobel prize for microfinance.
That man who bought a cart and a motocycle start a recycling business basically microfinanced himself. With a relatively small amount of money (and low/no interest rate) he could start a business and now he can make a decent living. That is what true microfinancing is about. The rest is just loan sharks.
Sad that we have to live life in situations like this.
Most wonderful people in Cambodia, please go there and travel the country, Siam Reap, Kampot,..Koh Rong..help the local people they deserve it..
this story so touching '
That's so true. I think that adults are not as developed or mature as we think we are and being so, some of our decisions are infantile. One of the infantile decisions people take is to take out a loan without having any forecast of extra money coming in the future that will guarantee payment to the bank.
Great quality documentary DW👍👍👍
They should have an option or somewhat a law to file bankruptcy or any arrangement for debt consolidation stopping those additional fines
This has nothing to do with microcredit so DW should update the title to reflect that this is about traditional lending.
That is just evil and the money lenders should not be allowed to get away with turning ordinary people into slaves.
I used to borrow money from microfinance like this. they only lend small amount of money. and they demand to pay you weekly on the course of 6 months. in total, I calculated to pay 40% interest. it's worse than a bank.
Life can put you down and teach you lessons. Always look for opportunities
