Insightful video, and it all makes a lot of sense. I would add, though, switching to a very minimal shoe with barely any cushioning has actually helped me a lot. I even take my minimalist shoes off to run through grassy fields completely barefoot. My foot strength has massively improved since.
Should have watched the videio before I started jogging recently. I was surprised how easy it was for me to run 7 miles within two weeks without feeling tired. However, my knees weren't up to it yet and now I'm recovering from it for a couple of weeks now. #GlassLegs It's a good example of "don't just rely on your body". Just because you can easily run longer distances without much experience, doesn't mean your body is ready yet. Cardio-vascular fitness can be deceiving big time.
There's no universal advice for anyone. For example, same running time is impossible for me, as my work timetable is different for every weekday. I prioritise consistency over achievement, done a city street crowd marathon only once (to see what it's like), and all the other 30+ marathons/ultras in non-racing mode, just to enjoy running for a long time in beautiful green places, away from the city. I'm 47, I know what I (dis)like. I don't need to see improvement in speed to enjoy my running. Unfortunately, most people seem to think that running is all about speed. And that makes them disappointed.
Great video, the only part which I wasn't sure about was the mileage of the shoes. I've recently found out that there has been no scientific studies/evidence around trainer mileage.
#1 is what happened to me. Now I‘m not focusing on pace any more…only me and nature - and it is great 🙂 consitancy is the key
Thank you! That was useful and I loved the graph! 👍
great vid. I lived a few of these mistakes
I run everyday at least 15k, I do have injuries occasionally whenever I stop running, and my knees hurt, but I feel like the body adapts eventually and the injuries disappear. I do agree that recovery days are necessary, however shoe technology is so advanced that it actually allows for daily jogging
Hi Nicklas 10% does not apply for any runners. Do the math and you will see it to fast. Thank for the mistakes I have done some in the past and learned about some new ones.
What do you think about running in barefoot shoes?
Consistency, pacing, rotate shoes. Oversimplified key concepts.
Can someone please summarise the video?
