You mostly described the wardance event and why I liked it so much compared to recent events. They gave a lot of characterization to Luka, a random 4* nobody would go out of their way to pull for, while also giving Boothill more screentime and letting us see some of the Belobog characters again while expanding Luofu lore. I'd love more events like that or that dream bubble suggestion you made. Great video!
This is why I really liked the Wardance and the Home Decor event. The former gave loads of characterization to Luka and we even got to visit Belobog for a bit again. Meanwhile the latter let us see the day-to-day lives of our main 5 characters and how they interact w/ one another. It was really endearing getting to see them as people and how their personalities interact!! Definitely want more character focused things in the future.
If I am being honest, I feel like saying this is a hoyo issue is a little bit of an overstatement. I played hi3 and zzz temporarily and I play both genshin and hsr, it’s mostly just hsr between these games. In genshin we literally had a birthday event for nahida in sumeru when there was a WAR in Natlan in the same update (5.1). in 5.4 we just went to inazuma when we finished Natlan stuff even though it’s still recovering from war. an event in Fontaine (I don’t remember which patch) just brought us back all the way to mondstadt and had yanfei who isn’t even from mondstadt. Also, the “traveler’s tales : anthology chapter” event which lasts for the entire update where you can just find random characters doing daily stuff you normally wouldn’t get to see, and characters being outside their nations like kazuha being in liyue, the genshin developers said it’s a test so there’s hope hsr might add this if they saw their own community wanting this in their game, but the chances are slim.
I loved it so much when Luka showed up during the Wardance event. It was one of my favorite events ever, having him interact with characters from another planet and learning more about him. I wish they did more events like that. Space fantasy has so much potential for this kind of storytelling but we don't get nearly enough of it.
HSR is the odd one out. In both Genshin and ZZZ you always have completely random events with no connection to what's going on in the Main Story with characters from different regions/factions interacting, with the biggest example being the summer events in Genshin where you always have the most random group of characters as protagonists. Note: HSR events also have another problem, they reuse TOO MUCH ASSESTS. Seriously, I've lost count of how many times they've reused the same parts of the Herta Space Station or Belobog without even bothering to change them a little bit.
Out of all the gacha games that I've played or read into, Hoyo games are the most story-centric, rather than character-driven. You don't get very many opportunities outside of the main story to interact with your characters. ZZZ is breaking that mold a little bit but I wish HSR had an affinity system or more short companion quests that unlock special items. I wanna interact more with the character I just spent $200 on lol
Aetherium Wars best event. Before Penacony i was always hoping they'd get to a similar themed planet, basically i wanted the Golden Saucer planet where it's just a place they can use for all kinds of fun events to take place. Penacony works for it but yeah as mentioned they've never taken advantage of it. lemme breed n race some owlbears.
3:20 HSR has actually tried to deviate from making events that "make sense" - the trashcan event in patch 2.4. However they faced huge backlash from complainers complaining that Hoyo is overusing the trashcan running gag and "why the hell are Penacony trashcans in Luofu it just breaks immersion" even when Hoyo provided a canonical reason within the event's dialogues. If this was an event to test the waters for silly events, I think HSR community just made it difficult for innovators in the developing department to convince their higher-ups that the game needs more events that aren't congruous with whatever is happening in the main quest.
HSR events peaked at the war dance the whole 3.0 was about puzzle puzzle and more puzzle in puzzle rooms then after finishing the story these people thought adding the main event for 3.0 should be MORE PUZZLES are you serious that fr just annoyed me.
the only event that i ENJOY SO MUCH is the BELOBOG POKEMON EVENT. that event where u control enemy and gain them and they have different skill and different playstyle. that event is lit. already done it thrice and enjoy it everytime because i use different team everytime lol
the galactic baseballer was the most fun side events ever
Yeah I absolutely want more low-story-importance for higher "vibes" events. The silly seasonal, experimental, or maybe even community focused events. I adore the Fire Emblem Heroes festive outfits and "Choose Your Legends" votes, and that'd be a fun way to give new special outfits. With rerun (and if buffed rerun really truly comes through) I'd love more old characters having spotlight Mihoyo does an amazing job making you fall in love, and the community and VAs make whole fandom subcultures invested in them. I'd happily spend for time, fits, and new power for old characters
Lol as a scientist I can relate so much to your mispronounciation of "Amphoreus" because "Amorpheus" means "with no shape"
I do feel like a bigger quality event over a few small meaningless ones would end up going a long way. Sure you might not be able to get every character involved but if the event is memorable and meaningful atleast it would actually let you feel closer to the characters that do get to be featured as opposed to what we have with forgettable events that do little to enhance the experience which is the complete opposite of what a event should be.
Aetherium wars and that Penacony Bird event was fun
Nah this is just an HSR issue, they not only do simple and small events , but if the event has a story it always just reuses Belabog or Herta Space station , I mean just take Genshin as an example, they make so many domains for Events which we will never see again, as for the “missions must correspond with current story” is just wrong, taking Genshin as another example, we had nahida’s birthday in 5.1 in same time as Natlan war, and then lantern rite in same patch as Natlan conquering the abyss, and now in 5.4 we’re going to inazuma, back in ver 4.1 we were in mondstat for weinlesefest while also being in prison in main story. Events are not and should not be tied to current story. Also as a side, Genshin has not directly revealed big lore reveals like “ the sky is fake” I believe in 4 years, so bringing that up is kinda a bad faith argument
I was reading some post in HSR reddit of someone telling the same issue about the 3.1 livestream announcement’s content with events being so little and uninspired. That post got “attacked” by the usual hoyodefenders and the mod remove that posts not long after. Just saw an echochamber that dismisses valid concerns as “just stop playing the game bro” and “ragebait used to be believable” 😂
i've honestly came to terms with hsr i admit i fell into the "net" they cast and got sucked into the daily grind and i found myself feeling very very negatively about the game be it the overly negative community or just the luck based mechanics built into the game it just didnt sit right with me thats until i just started viewing hsr as a video game and nothing more. hsr succeeds as a video game but fails as a live service game the world is beautiful the scenery is top notch the hype is real for updates but even the best game cant get dlc's forever each story should come to an end and take god of war for example i spent the same amount playing hsr as i did god of war but i left GoW with an extremely satisfied impression while hsr is not even close to a quarter of its story let alone the end and thats not bad for those who genuinely love it i've genuinely invested my time and had fun got a lot of characters that i want and built some good teams and completed most of the end game challenges but at the end of the day hsr is a video game and video games shouldnt put you in a prison cell where you cant ever enjoy anything else after it without feeling guilty have fun everyone! video games are meant to bring you joy and if you wanna commit to hsr long term then set your expectations low some changes might happen but no matter what i have a strong feeling that almost every one of us enjoyed an aspect of hsr and that to me is enough
The simple answer is that it will take too much effort for Hoyo to do so Also i feel event need to "make sense" is to not break player emersion, goofy events like Origami bird clash or Aetherium war was placed in a position where it make sense in the story for you to participate in those and not like "doing some weird thing in Amphoreus and randomly ppl from J6 shows up"
