her mother doubting her parenting and hoping she had run away is so devastating
Getting kidnapped on its own is a terrifying thought. Getting kidnapped by a whole GOVERNMENT is a horrifying and hopeless thought.
Imagine someone kidnapping your child, hiding it for over 20 years, lying/being vague about what happened to them, then continuing living like nothing wrong had happened. What the actual fuck is wrong with this world.
This case is absolutely heartbreaking. I would go crazy without knowing where my daughter is and after 20 whole years learning about the kidnappings of N.Korea and still not knowing if she is alive or not.
you can tell how much their family really cared about her
The clip of her father crying is so heartbreaking
Searching for your daughter for 20 years just to get news that she is deceased from the list of abducted Japanese people must be soul shattering. Holy crap.
The fact Shigeru died with an unsolved cause of grief with him is just heartbreaking. Hoping there would be at least some justice from that. It's infuriating that North Korea's secrecy and their totally stupid isolation and ideology would make matters worse for these kinds of cases.
It is absolutely outrageous that North Korea can do these things and keep getting away with it. My heart breaks for all those poor families who had their loved ones abducted. It’s so unfair really, I wish more could be done for these families. I just hate that North Korea is able to do these awful things and nobody is able to stop them.
This case still weighs heavily on the people who live in and around Niigata. I was being shown around the city in 2017 by a couple who has lived their whole life in the area, and as we drove down the street where she had been abducted, they told me the story. I can't imagine the fear that something like foreign agents abducting children would have caused.
That footage of her dad crying fucking broke me bro, he couldnt hold it. More power to her mom, as well.
My heart absolutely shattered seeing megumi’s parents and how much pain they were in. I hope they found peace eventually
On shortwave radio, there is a program called “Furosato no Kaze” and it was created by a coalition of Japanese families who have also had their children abducted by North Korea. On the program, you can hear the parents read letters in Japanese and Korean (Korean because their children may have forgotten a lot of their Japanese) and play the favorite songs of the victims. I once heard a dad start choking up while reading one of the letters, saying, “I can’t go on like this anymore.” The radio program tries to broadcast it into North Korea in hopes that the victims will tune in and recognize their parents voices or favorite songs playing.
Megumi's mom saying that even though she's older with gray hair, they can still have fun when she gets back absolutely broke my heart. I cry a lot, but seeing that poor woman still trying to smile at the camera, hoping her daughter is going to see it, even though she's been looking for her for 20+ years is just too much
its sad that her father passed away without ever really getting a concrete answer as to where his daughter truly was the last 20yrs :/
It's so inhumane to steal away a child from its parent. I truly do hope Megumi is alright and she will reunite with her family one day, same with the other innocent people who were abducted.
I hope she’s brought home one day if she really is alive. It’s disgusting how North Korea not only tortures their own people, but foreigners too. I hate how much they’re able to get away with.
here's the sad part: even if she miraculously return tomorrow, it's been 46 years. She would feel alienated because only her mother still alive and she would be very old woman. Megumi herself would be 60 and her twin brothers would be strangers because they look so small during her abduction and have not much memory of their sister.
Wow, this story is both heartbreaking and incredibly intriguing. It's also infuriating to think that North Korea has refused to apologize or provide any information about Megumi's disappearance. They have shown no compassion or remorse for the pain and suffering they have caused. It's a powerful reminder of the impact a single person's story can have on the world stage. 🌍💔 #NeverForgetMegumi
