Hoyo literally used the Luigi method. Do nothing and still win.
Honestly insane how they weaponized/incited and put their actors basically up to this to only abandon and help ruin their careers
Hoyoverse is not really losing options of EN VAs that really makes them a hard time of hiring. US is not the only English speaking country in the world and there are tons of Non-union US based VAs as well. If anything, this gives opportunities for international talents and Non-union US VAs, especially the underrated ones to grow their careers in Hoyoverse games. However, I feel sad for the US VAs that might be a disadvantage because of SAG AFRA.
It speaks volumes on how SAG also sees non-union actors, too.
This is a lose-lose for SAG. There are barely any union VA roles/projects and most have shifted to non US EN VAs.
I get why so many of the en VAs would lie regarding the strike, but they made a mistake treating their fans like mindless sycophants. Trust has been greatly damaged, all for nothing. Grateful to all the genuinely chill VAs that have been transparent or have avoided this debacle entirely.
Would you, as a game developer, sign an agreement that: - Takes away your right to decide who voices who. Instead, SAG will designate an "appropriate" VA for you. - You are not able to fire them when they go on strike for years, otherwise face a hefty fine. - You are not able to replace them with the VA you chose while they are on strike, leaving your game inferior to competitors. All that, when you already have an anti-AI policy in your contracts to begin with. You simply refuse to sign that paper above SAG press upon. That's how it looks for Hoyo.
0:24 perfect screenshot summarizing how much the Union and the 'Strike' has only damaged English VAs and English viewers. 3:29 yup the Kinich incident where alot of people started to lose respect for certain English VAs who were not working but harrassing a new VA who had every right to work on a project.
Second also Corina has single-handedly ruined the reputation of all EN Genshin VAs and EN VAs in general. So she‘s not getting any sympathy from me. The reputation of genshin VAs will never be the same I doubt we’re ever getting another among us stream or something like that…
22:11 I somewhat disagree. In the long run, SAG-AFTRA is going to lose more than the other two entities. Hoyo will likely hire less Union workers and expand to other markets for VAs like they already have and knowing that jobs are washing up as a Union member plus the increased enforcement of Global Rule One, if SAG-AFTRA does not adapt and change its policy on the GRO, then more and more VAs will likely go Fi-Core and quit or never join to begin with. That loss of membership dues will eventually be a death by a thousand stings for the union. Great vid! Your presentation was very clear and concise. Looking forward to more of your vids!
to me SAG is feel like PETA of voice acting for a while now
I just think it's bad that I've seen vas just begging SAG to take the deal so they can work again. US needs a better union
On the kind of bright side.. ish, drama like this is giving more opportunity to the global voice acting market. Funny how stuff like this brings a little more diversity to the project.
looking back, Hoyo was really playing the long game by being totally silent about this lol. At first, there were some backlash against them, sure, but as time goes on, everything just happened totally in their favor. They basically "win by doing nothing" like Valve lmao
VAs should make their own union, because clearly SAG doesn't give a single rusty, dusty, OR crusty fuck about them.
It's absolutely crazy to me that some people STILL defend SAG, it's not even double standards it's like tripe or even quadruple standards at this point.
This whole sitatuon is just full of dissapointments. I don't know what SAG is looking for anymore, and it seems like the VAs don't know either. There's been some thinly veiled passive aggression against SAG from several VAs and I can't blame them. Many VA opportunties in the USA have been given to other countries instead. Hoyo is also in the right to hire the VAs they want in the face of this issue. It genuinely worries me as someone who IS a fan of Genshins VAs. I do think Hoyo can do what they want with casting. But at the same time, I can also hate the idea of so many VAs being replaced. Especially when striking may not have been their choice! Both sentiments can exist at the same time. Anime/Game VAs tend to be on the low end of the hierarchy, sadly. So it seems like their voices/vote about the strike are not given as much attention. Likely the actors who are standing by SAG are doing so because they genuinely need SAG's support and they don't want to publicly bite the hand that feeds them. Anyway- I really appreciate that you asked others to not generalize the English VAs. And that you acknowledge that the VAs are in a tough place right now. Hard sacrifices will have to be made. From what I've seen, certain online personalities who talk about this issue are already anti-English dubs to begin with. So their approach to this issue comes off as cheering for the end of every English VA's careers and English dubs in general. And that's missing the point of the problem entirely.😢
that Corina picture is so out of date its crazy
what a refreshing video! i appreciate your calm and analytical narration. i find in many of the youtubers who cover this situation, they exaggerate what certain VAs said or outright incorrectly paraphrase them. its made it really difficult for me to keep up because the people who relay the information from the sources are come off (to me at least!) as gosspiy and overreacting, and even though i am on the majority's side in this, i still want a factual and fair representation of the different people who are involved. the ones i diagree with too. i know this comment is a little bit passive aggressive toward said youtubers. i just wanted to let you know that i really liked your video and that it felt like a breath of fresh air. thank you :)
